It was raining outside. I mounted the microphones into an umbrella, took a little walk, came back and heard a perfect track coming from my speakers. 'Berlin', subtitled 'Berlin-Falkensee', proves my motto: "Don't search. Find."
Stephan Mathieu has released works on a number of independent record labels including, among others, Orthlong Musork, Ritornell and Fällt. A prolific composer he began work as a drummer with German group Stol. Since 1998, however, his work has focussed on the digital processing of acoustic events, a process he describes as: "extracting sounds from homeopathic vibrations at their source."
The results have been released to widespread critical acclaim, with his album 'frequencyLib.' being included The Wire's '2001 Rewind' list.
